Process
Making custom furniture is a partnership. We join forces to translate your vision into a finished piece of furniture.
The process begins with a consultation to clarify your needs and expectations, to explore possibilities and exchange ideas, opinions and perspectives.
The ideas we develop in our initial meeting will be consolidated into one or more draft concept designs for either your immediate approval or further development and refinement. Preliminary cost and timeline projections will be generated for each design concept. Adapting an existing design might take a single draft/revision cycle to adjust it to your personal preferences. Creating a unique, one-of-a-kind piece can require several cycles to fully develop a faultless design. In some cases, models or full size mockups may be appropriate.
The end result of the design process is a set of measured drawings, detailed specifications, a production timeline and a firm cost estimate. Half of the project fee is payable on approval of the final design and your authorization to begin production.
The first step toward production is locating and acquiring the wood. I search out best hardwoods available from sources ranging from specialty sawmills to commercial dealers who handle woods from all over the world. Each board is selected individually for the most suitable color, grain and figure. Selecting the wood is a secret pleasure of furniture making. If treasure hunting through piles of lumber sounds appealing, you may want to go too.
Our collaboration continues throughout production via email, telephone and shop visits culminating in a final inspection of the completed piece. If an in-person inspection isn't possible due to distance or circumstance, I'll provide detailed photos sufficient to the purpose.
Project fees are FOB my shop. I prefer to deliver in person, and will do so at cost within 100 miles of Conroe. Delivery to greater distances will be via agreed upon carrier, with the cost added to the project fee. The balance due is payable upon approval for shipping, or for local customers, on delivery.
The work is guaranteed against defects of materials or workmanship. Should either fail, I'll repair or replace the piece without charge. I'm sure you understand that you are responsible for proper care, and protection from accidental and environmental damage after delivery.
